(English translation๏ผ
Sweet Tooth vs. Savory Tooth
Hello, everyone. Do you like sweet foods? I really love sweet things.ใCake, cookies, chocolateโฆ and also manju and dango. I love them all.
My favorite sweets are sweets made with anko (sweet red bean paste). Have you ever tried any sweets made with anko?
For example, this is called manju. Very often, people say omanju.
When I was in Japan, I often made sweets. Manju is a little difficult to make. But the process of wrapping the anko inside is really fun.
What I especially like is anmitsu.
The an in anmitsu is the an from anko. Mitsu means a sweet syrup.
For example, nectar from flowers is called hana no mitsu. Honey made by bees is called hachimitsu. Syrup made from brown sugar (kokutou) is called kuromitsu.
And in Japanese, a person who likes sweets, like me, is called amatou. The word tou usually means a political party.
For example:
- yotou: ruling party
- yatou: opposition party
- minshutou: Democratic Party
- hoshutou: conservative party
- kakushin seitou: progressive party
In Japanese, this tou is also used in various other words.
By the way, the opposite of amatou is karatou. It means โa person who prefers spicy or salty foods to sweet ones.โ It also actually has another meaning: โa person who likes alcohol more than sweets.โ
My father likes alcohol, and he does not really like sweets very much. So my father is definitely karatou.
Are you amatou or karatou?ใWhat kinds of sweet treats are there in your country or culture? Please tell me :)
Thank you for reading to the end!ใAfter eating sweets, letโs brush our teeth ๐ชฅ๐ฆท
